Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce Board Retreat Cape George Fire Hall, January 20, 2007 Attendees: Jennifer MacGillonie, Kate Burke, Ryan Anderson, Le Hornbeck, Fred Obee, Dave Brader, Mimi Rosenberg, Bruce McComas, Marilyn Staples, Susan Grant, Mike Wade, Susan Grantham, Tim Caldwell, and Rick Sepler. Meeting called to order by President Jennifer MacGillonie at 10:05 AM. Introduction of retreat facilitator Rick Sepler, City of Port Townsend Public Works Director. The facilitator’s $200 stipend will be donated to the Friends of Fort Worden to support the Fort 2 Fort Bike Ride June 10, 2007. Introductions of Chamber board members and staff.
Tim presented a 2006 Chamber year in review and distributed the 2007 Chamber Board packets. Reviewed and approved the current Chamber goals for use in 2007: • Develop and support transportation and infrastructure strategies. • Actively support local economic business development and promote growth and retention of existing businesses in the region. • Create and support workforce development opportunities. • Be the most effective business organization on the Olympic Peninsula by enhancing member benefits and broadening our membership base. Several projects were identified that would serve to support the Chamber’s goals. Due to resource and time constraints, the board was asked to determine the projects with the highest priority. Noon: Lunch break. Board members voted (three votes each) for projects. The projects for 2007 are: • Continue to advocate for the expansion of regional passenger-only ferry service to connect the communities of Seattle, Kingston, Port Townsend, and Victoria, B.C. • Enhance the working relationship with governmental agencies at the Federal, state, regional, county, and city level. • Initiate the process to develop a five-year plan that includes a regionalized Chamber of Commerce expansion. • Continue to develop the communities’ tourism industry base. • Assist with the revitalization of the Jefferson County Economic Development Council. The board also identified the standing committees and the committee chairs responsible for marshalling the Chamber resources to achieve its newly defined projects. The committees and chairs are: • Transportation: Tim Caldwell, Chamber staff • Communications: Jennifer MacGillonie • Health Care: Mary Morrissey • Membership: Marilyn Staples, and Mimi Rosenberg • Business Leader Recognition: Ryan Anderson • Technology: David Brader • Meeting Sponsors: Mimi Rosenberg • Mixers: Fred Obee • Concerts on the Dock: Tim Caldwell and Susan Grantham, Chamber staff. • Wedding Show: Susan Grant • Business Education: Kate Burke, Bruce McComas, and Le Hornbeck • Interagency Liaison and Governmental Relations: Tim Caldwell.
