About LOFT
The LOFT (Learning Opportunities for Thinking People) School was founded and is run by Julie Marston, a teacher with special training in gifted education. She pursued this degree after a number of years in the public school system, when she decided to step outside its structure and develop the model for LOFT's enriched, interdisciplinary curriculum. The purpose of LOFT is to provide a place for thinking people to think, to create, to interact. The goal is to allow students to come alive with their own ideas, to rise to the challenge of open-ended problem solving, to pursue their ideas and creative talents with people of similar intellectual interests in a multi-age, small-group setting. LOFT promotes hands-on experience and encourages students to figure things out for themselves and enjoy their creativity in a place where they are allowed the freedom to challenge. Students are encouraged to recognize the relationship of all knowledge and realize they have the power to seek it out in ways that are not only creative but also productive.
